*A lunchtime review is a shorter review, less indepth on the flavors and service, but rather we focus on whether or not this restaurant would be a good place to grab a bite to eat, and enjoy some repose from a busy day.*
Market
Campos has been a staple in the Mexican community since 2004, always offering a variety of authentic ingredients straight from Mexico. In the front of the store, there is a market, offering the same products as the markets in Mexico. They also have a meat counter with Lengua (cow tongue), Tripa (beef intestine), two different types of whole fish, and not to mention, "The Flavor Odyssey's Choice" for best Carne Asada and Carnitas in town.
Kitchen
As we usually say, the little things are extremely important when eating at a restaurant, whether its for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We believe that Campos is hit or miss when it comes to this. There is no water, and the rest of the drinks are expensive, but there is a great selection of drinks. There isn't much seating, but it isn't usually deduced to standing room only. And there aren't very many options for condiments, but the two that they offer are amazing. It goes back and forth a lot.
We ordered a Lengua (cow tongue) burrito, a Al Pastor (marinated pork) burrito, a Cecina (air dried meat) taco, a Carnitas (slow cooked pork) taco, and two chicharron con carnes (fried beef fat.) Wow, maybe too much food. The burrito was good, maybe a little bit dry, but when supplemented by salsa it was delicious. The tacos were by far the star of the show, garnished by lime and radish, and served with onions, cilantro, and your choice of meat , these were absolutely delicious. The bitterness of the lime complements the onion and cilantro, then the flavor of the meat comes through beautifully. It is all encased by a fresh corn tortilla. All the meat choices we ordered were delicious, the lengua was Marco's favorite and the Al Pastor was Henry's favorite. The lengua is perfectly tender, and tastes really good (if you can get over the thought of what it actually is!.) The Al Pastor is also extremely flavorful and juicy. The carnitas were still the best in town, and the cecina was a lot of fun to try. The chicharron con carne was not for us however, but some of the people we were dining with loved it. The flavor and texture were good, but they are hard to eat, (especially without water!) Overall, we really enjoyed what Campos had to offer.
Value
Campos was also in the middle for value, nothing was relatively cheap, but nothing was expensive either. Expect to spend about $15-20 for a satisfying meal.
